Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned creative wanting to try something new, the Misty Flicks Challenge is your chance to bring your ideas to life — and maybe even see them play in front of a live audience at the Misty Flicks Film Festival.

What's the Challenge?
The Misty Flicks Challenge is a low-stakes, high-fun filmmaking competition designed to get you creating. Whether you fly solo or build a team of friends, family, or fellow creatives, the aim is simple: create a short film that’s 1–9 minutes long and submit it by 31 August 2025.
The best films will be screened at this year’s Misty Flicks Film Festival in front of a live audience — a rare opportunity for filmmakers of all levels.
Who Can Enter?
Absolutely anyone who lives in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
New to film? Try it out with friends or family – it’s a great entry point.
Experienced? Use the challenge to try a genre you’ve never dared attempt.
Working on a big script? Turn a scene or moment into a stand-alone short.
Think of this as your filmmaking sandbox with extra sprinkles, thanks to Hoops and Scoops, who are here to support emerging storytellers and local creativity.
What you Need to Do
To enter the Misty Flicks Challenge, your film must:
✅ Be between 1–9 minutes
✅ Be suitable for G or PG audiences
✅ Include the 2025 required object: ice cream
✅ Feature a character named Sloane
✅ Begin with the official Misty Flicks Challenge splash screen (provided upon registration)
✅ Be filmed in HD (suitable for big screen projection)
✅ Not be screened publicly before the Misty Flicks Film Festival (except for private cast & crew viewings)
Note: After the Misty Flicks Film Festival, you can submit your film to other festivals.
