The Festival

About

Misty Flicks is a not-for-profit independent film festival held annually in the Central region of Aotearoa, New Zealand. The festival offers a wide-ranging programme of local and indigenous cinema. It aims to introduce and unite audiences to different voices and cultures through the power of storytelling.

Misty Flicks creates a platform to nurture the careers of tomorrow's storytellers by providing educational opportunities and workshops. It makes film accessible to its people and creates a sense of community and connectedness through the arts by connecting filmmakers and audiences in discussions and seminars based on the principles of manaakitanga.

Misty Flicks was founded in 2018 by a group of passionate film makers who wanted to inspire and unite communities by showcasing the voices of the Waikato. This is why we are passionate to place the Central region of Aotearoa, New Zealand on the national and international cultural map and celebrate this unique part of New Zealand as the centre for screen business.

Mission

We believe that a story has the power to challenge people’s views, create empathy and understanding and push our boundaries of belief. As well as being entertaining, a story can inspire or move us.

Vision

Our mission is to celebrate the creativity in visual storytelling and nurture the careers of future filmmakers through our programmes and workshops. We want to make film accessible to our residents by providing discussions and seminars. We want to bring the story of the world and support artists and audiences who embody diversity, innovation, and curiosity all in the beautiful set of the Central north region.
