Misty Flicks Film Festival invites young creatives from across Aotearoa to share their stories and showcase their talent on the big screen.
This is your chance to participate in a festival that celebrates bold storytelling, fresh ideas, and the originality of New Zealand’s next generation of filmmakers!
What You Need to Do
Make a short film on your own or with a group of friends. It can be anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes long (around 5 minutes is a good goal!).
This year’s theme is ENVIRONMENT.
Interpret the theme however you like, from nature and wildlife to climate action, or imaginative stories about your community or our planet.
Important Guidelines:
Films must be suitable for viewers as young as 6 years and align with a G or PG audience rating, with age-appropriate language, themes, and visuals.
Your film can be between 30 seconds and 10 minutes.
Add a title at the start and credits at the end of your film. Make sure you include everyone who has contributed.
Open to New Zealand youth 17 and under with a connection to the Waikato or Central/Eastern North Island.
Submission deadline: 30 June 2026

How to Enter
A parent, guardian, or adult over 18 must submit your film on your behalf.
If any adults helped with filming, editing, or writing, please acknowledge their support in the credits and on your submission form.
