Our 2021 Short Film Showcase Judges

Fiona Jackson

Fiona Jackson is a filmmaker currently based in New Zealand. Born in Bath, England, Jackson moved to California in 1993 where she began her career in the film industry as a stunt performer and assistant for film, television and broadway director Tom Moore.
She graduated with a BA majoring in Screen and Media with a minor in Philosophy from the University of Waikato, and subsequently an MA in Visual Arts, Moving Image from WINTEC. Fiona is a PhD candidate studying Independent Filmmaking.
She is writer/producer of feature film Penny Black, co-written with director Joe Hitchcock.
Fiona is teaching film at WINTEC Media Arts.

Scott Granville

Scott Granville is a producer, writer, and co-founder of education media company, Chasing Time English. After creating a number of internationally recognised, award-winning short films from 2009-2016, Granville and long-time collaborator Ben Woollen began producing episodic drama series for the English language education market. Since 2017, these series have gained a wide-reaching audience spanning more than 150 countries around the world. Granville is also a published author of illustrated children’s books, an educator, and active supporter of creative practice in the Waikato region.

Richard Swainson

Dr. Richard Swainson runs Auteur House, the last DVD rental store in Hamilton. He was the first person to complete a doctorate in film studies at the University of Waikato. An amateur film critic for various publications and radio stations over a two decade period, he reviewed films on RNZ National for three and a half years. He currently writes monthly opinion columns for the Waikato Times as well as a weekly contribution to the paper’s Saturday ‘history page’. He is also the obituary writer for the Waikato Times, reads a pub quiz once a week at the Londoner tavern and is the incumbent Master of Ceremonies for Hamilton Pecha Kucha.
